- Detailed Assessment: Testing (hammer tap, cover meter, core samples, chloride levels, NDT testing). Additionally, it is important to determine the cause and not just the extent.
- Repair Strategy Development: Define what success looks like: make-safe, life extension, full restoration? Develop options with pros and cons.
- Detailed Design: Engineering drawings and specifications. It is imperative to coordinate with asset managers, contractors, waterproofing consultants, and other stakeholders during this stage.
- Execution: Site supervision during critical works – Overseeing that the works follow the intent of the design.
- Verification and QA: Final inspection, quality assurance inspection, and (if required) certification.
What Is Concrete Remediation?
Remediation is not just patching concrete. It is about restoring the structure’s function, safety, and durability.
That could mean:
- Injecting cracks to prevent water ingress
- Fixing design or construction defects from the past
- Strengthening weak members with carbon fibre or steel
